It started like the story of the boy and the starfish — the one who walked along the beach, throwing stranded starfish back into the sea. When told he couldn't possibly make a difference, he gently tossed another into the waves and said, “I made a difference to that one.”

That simple truth — that small actions matter — is what inspired us, a small family with a shared passion for protecting the planet, to create Rainbow Spaghetti.

Our journey began on the mainland USA, but it was the call of the ocean — and the visible impact of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch on Hawaii’s North Shore — that pulled us toward a bigger purpose. We moved to Oʻahu, where we saw firsthand the heartbreaking effects of ocean and household waste on one of the most beautiful places in the world.

At the same time, we heard growing concerns over landfill shortages on the island. Hawaii, like so many places around the globe, is running out of space and time. We knew we couldn’t fix everything. But we could start somewhere.

So we did.

Inspired by videos of everyday people recycling waste into useful and beautiful things, we began experimenting. We collected household, and beach trash, melting it in a panini press, cutting shapes with cookie cutters, trying — failing — learning.

We studied plastic: how to tell the types apart, how to prepare it safely, how to give it a second life.

Eventually, we invested in a plastic injection molding machine and bead molds of all sizes. That’s when it happened — the moment of magic. Our first batches of recycled beads came out swirled, marbled, colorful — like tie-dye frozen in time. No two were ever the same. Each one was as unique and beautiful as a human life.

From that moment, Rainbow Spaghetti was born — not just as a jewelry brand, but as a movement.
